Roof Insurance Claims in Dallas
Hail hit your neighborhood. Your insurance company owes you a roof. But they're not going to make it easy. Adjusters miss damage. Initial estimates come in low. Supplements get denied on the first try. We've been through this process hundreds of times. We handle the inspection, the adjuster meeting, the supplement and the paperwork. You pay your deductible. Insurance covers the rest.

How the Insurance Claim Process Works
Free Roof Inspection
We climb the roof, inspect every square foot and photograph all damage — dented shingles, granule loss, cracked vent boots, dented flashing, damaged gutters. Takes 30-45 minutes. You get a detailed report with photos.
File the Claim
You call your insurance company and report roof damage from the storm. Give them the storm date. They'll assign a claim number and schedule an adjuster. We coach you on what to say and what not to say.
Meet the Adjuster
Your insurance sends an adjuster to inspect the roof. We meet them on-site and walk them through every point of damage. Adjusters have 15 minutes per house — they miss things. We make sure nothing gets overlooked.
Claim Approval & First Check
Insurance approves the claim and sends a check for the actual cash value (ACV) — that's the replacement cost minus depreciation and your deductible. This first check is NOT the full amount. The rest comes after the work is done.
Install the New Roof
We tear off the old roof, inspect the decking, install new materials and clean up. Takes 1-3 days for shingles. You pay your deductible to us. Insurance pays the rest directly.
Supplement & Depreciation Recovery
After the roof is installed, we submit a supplement for any additional costs the adjuster missed. About 70% of claims require one. Insurance also releases the depreciation holdback once the job is complete. This process takes 2-4 weeks after installation.
Common Insurance Carriers in Dallas
We've worked with every major carrier. Here's what to expect:
State Farm
Largest carrier in Texas. Generally straightforward claims process. Their adjusters use Xactimate pricing. Supplements are usually approved within 2-3 weeks. Class 4 shingle discount available.
Allstate
Second largest in DFW. Initial estimates tend to run low. Almost always requires a supplement. Their adjusters are thorough but conservative. Expect 3-4 weeks for supplement approval.
USAA
Military families only. Best claims experience in the industry. Fair initial estimates. Fast supplement turnaround. Class 4 discounts available. We see a lot of USAA policies in North Dallas and Frisco.
Liberty Mutual / Safeco
Generally fair but slower than average. Their adjusters sometimes push for repair over replacement. Documentation is key — we photograph everything to support full replacement when warranted.
Dallas Hail Damage: Why Claims Are So Common Here
DFW ranks in the top five U.S. metro areas for annual hail insurance claims. The reason is geography. Dallas sits where warm, moisture-laden air from the Gulf of Mexico meets dry air from the high plains and cold fronts from the Rockies. That collision creates the supercell thunderstorms that produce large hail — and it happens multiple times every spring.
Major hail events hit different parts of the metroplex almost every year. The June 2023 storm dropped baseball-sized hail across North Dallas and Richardson, causing an estimated $2 billion in insured losses. The March 2016 storms hammered Wylie and Plano with softball-sized hail — one of the costliest single-day hail events in U.S. history. The April 2021 storms damaged roofs from Fort Worth to Garland across a 50-mile path.
Most homeowners don't realize their roof has hail damage until they see a leak. Hail dents don't always look dramatic from the ground. But each dent cracks the granule layer that protects the asphalt underneath. Without that granule shield, UV radiation breaks down the asphalt binder within 12 to 24 months. A roof that looked fine the day after the storm can start leaking 18 months later — and by then, you're past the filing deadline.
That's why we recommend a professional inspection after every major hail event, even if your roof looks fine from the driveway. We climb it, document every dent and crack with photos and give you a written report. If the damage warrants a claim, you have documentation ready. If it doesn't, you have peace of mind. Either way, the inspection is free.
One more thing Texas homeowners should know: under Texas Insurance Code Section 707.002, it is illegal for any contractor to waive, absorb or pay your insurance deductible. Any roofer who offers to "cover your deductible" is committing a crime — and cutting corners somewhere else to make up the difference. Your deductible is your responsibility. An honest roofer will tell you that upfront.
